Mercedes-Benz Electric Commercial Van of the Future
Last night Mercedes-Benz presented their new all electric delivery van to the press at the Benz Stuttgart Innovation Campus.
The new ‘Vision Van’ concept will be on show at the upcoming Paris Motor Show in October.
Vehicle Statistics: Expected range of up to 270km. Electric drivetrain a maximum of 75kW power with 270Nm of torque but Benz are doing some great work to provide some power boost options like in Formula E racing cars.
When the driver needs extra passing power they can access an extra boost of power from the van that can deliver up to 150kW for 60 seconds.
Top speed 120kph when engaging the power boost, but the van is electronically limited to 80kph for normal driving to city conditions.
Cargo Features: All electric with long range battery power and high integration for drone deliveries on the go this commercial package is extremely attractive to mega billion dollar world freight delivery businesses such as DHL, FedEx or even Australia Post here down under.
The ‘Vision Van’ has up to 46 parcel baskets in two sliding racks along the length of the van.
These racks are loaded into the van by an automated lifting platform at the freight distribution centre for fast loading. The ranking system is also automated so that when the driver is close to the delivery address the appropriate package is retrieved for the driver to hand deliver to the customer.
Drone Delivery: To save even more time a package can be retrieved and loaded beneath one of the vans two drone and air delivered automatically while the van continues onto the next job.
Like all leading European vehicle manufacturers, Mercedes-Benz is progressing to distance itself from old internal combustion engine drivetrains and particularly diesel power. This new EV concept van will be a cornerstone of the Benz commercial fleet transition to a low/zero emissions transport future.
The ‘Vision Van’ will be on show at the Paris Motor Show from the 1st October.
