Mitsubishi to premiere new-generation SUV concept at Paris Motor Show

Mitsubishi will preview its vision for a new-generation SUV when it premieres the Ground Tourer GT-PHEV Concept at the upcoming Paris Motor Show later this month.

Powered by a triple-motor, advanced plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) system, the new GT-PHEV Concept will take centre stage on the Mitsubishi Motors (MMC) stand from 29 September alongside a range of the company’s pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Designed to inspire a sense of adventure, the Mitsubishi GT-PHEV Concept is the latest expression of MMC’s new design language.

The next-generation SUV’s design conveys its credentials as a comfortable, high-end cruiser capable of handling a range of different road surfaces and conditions with traditional Japanese craftsmanship, muscular styling and functional beauty.

MMC’s striking Dynamic Shield front styling once again evokes a strong sense of protection for the vehicle and occupants, while the side view uses horizontal lines to convey an impression of solidity and stability. Overall, the GT-PHEV exterior design is a fusion of classic styling, strong sculptural form and precise detailing.

Inside, the GT-PHEV uses a horizontal dashboard design to create a spacious interior, making it easier for the driver to read the surrounding landscape. Together with its instrument panel and high centre console, the cockpit-like interior wraps around the occupants to provide a feeling of greater security.

Genuine leather trim is generously appointed throughout the interior and is carefully colour co-ordinated with the exterior roof finish.

The GT-PHEV’s plug-in hybrid system comprises a next-generation high-capacity drive battery package, three high-output and high-efficiency motors and a specially designed engine featuring improved electricity generation and motive performance.

The new powertrain combination delivers responsive performance ideal for cross-country driving and longer trips, along with an electric-only range of 120km and hybrid cruising range of more than 1,200km.

The triple-motor configuration – one unit at the front and two at the rear – enables a dramatic performance improvement of its full-time, four-wheel drive powertrain and Super All Wheel Control (SAW-C) integrated vehicle dynamics control system to provide new levels of handling stability.

Mitsubishi’s GT-PHEV Concept also showcases the latest in connected car technologies to maximise its performance and functionality.

Route information and data on weather and road surface conditions are fed to the vehicle from information networks, on-board sensors and cameras to closely manage electricity consumption and fuel economy while providing suitable all-wheel control settings to match the road and weather conditions.

eX Concept
Following its debut at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show, MMC will display the compact new-generation pure-electric eX Concept at Paris Motor Show, marking its second official international motor show outing in 2016.

The eX Concept represents MMC’s vision of a city-friendly sports crossover styled to showcase the future direction of MMC design. It’s also powered by a lighter, more efficient next-generation EV system based on high-capacity and high-performance battery technology combined with compact high-output electric motors for a potential cruising range of 400km.

The combination of a low centre of gravity and Mitsubishi’s Twin Motor 4WD and S-AWC integrated vehicle dynamics control system ensures eX Concept delivers outstanding vehicle stability for spirited driving.

The 2016 Paris Motor Show will take place from 29 September to 16 October.
