Automotive manufacturers partner with local Chinese partners
Chinese authorities have been hard at work to release a new policy framework to reduce strict protectionism and allow foreign electric car manufactures to build ‘new energy vehicles’ in China.
Companies such as Tesla could soon be one of several world leading automotive manufactures to build plug in electric vehicles in China under a joint venture partnership system.
Chinese authorities aim to have 5million plug in electric vehicles (PEV) on the Chinese roads by 2020. To do this the new joint venture policy will aim to bring local businesses together with companies like Tesla, Daimler-Benz, Volkswagen, BMW and others.
Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk indicated Tesla was intending to establish a local Chinese manufacturing partner and recently German government authorities held discussions with Chinese leaders because of China’s aims to give preference to Chinese made ‘new energy vehicles’.
China, Korea and Japan are currently large providers of electric vehicle components such motors and all-important electric vehicle drive battery products. The Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology stated in the China Daily that “local battery manufacturers will have more incentives to innovate and improve the quality of their products.” Leading auto manufactures are currently building stronger relationships in China to secure partnerships and grab market position for the future.
While auto brands are investing in building their own batteries and plug in vehicle production capabilities it is vital that they secure Chinese local partners to ensure access to the millions of Chinese customer electric vehicle sales.
This is brilliant news for the PEV market in general. Just as Apple build quality iPhone products at affordable prices for the world market, so the same will happen for the PEV development and mass adoption.
Soon a Tesla Model3, or a VW plug in vehicle could be on the roads in Australia and made in China at low cost. Low/zero emissions vehicles are the future and this development ensures sustainable electric vehicles will replace the old fossil fuel burning internal combustion cars of the past.
